import 3d DWG for sweep in Revit

can you import 3d DWG lines from Rhino into Revit to use them so I can sketch over the lines and create new lines / data for sweep?

Yes, but...

I don't know if you can do it with Revit itself, because I haven't found a way to align a workplane to the imported 3d line.

It's easy to do it through Dynamo though. The method below will give you a set of model lines which you can use to create your sweep (or create a sweep in Dynamo :))

I'm not sure what you are asking? What k? You mean the imported 3d spline?

You can download it from here http://dynamobim.org/ (the site is under maintenance today, but download still works)
Have a look at Zach Kron's blog - http://buildz.blogspot.com.au/ for some more information. Or here here or  here

I can't imagine modelling something in Revit more complicated than a box without Dynamo 🙂
OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but it definitely helps to have this tool.

When I try to use the method described above on a closed NURBS curve it comes in as two curves. Is there a way to join these back together into one closed NURBS curve? I'm trying to create a NURBS floor which currently isn't possible natively within Revit.

Sure rhino can join surfaces with the join command. Do you have rhino? Need
help?

I know how to join curves in rhino. Its Dynamo thats the problem. It automatically splits a closed curve
