How do you draw a stud wall...

...or any wood frame structure for that matter? The tutorials leave me wondering.

studs are a wall core..

studs are a detail of the wall..

not sure why some want to model
studs- but there is an add-on for
revit that models studs..

or you could create generic mass
shapes like studs and call them studs..

So how did you get that Wall Family Type? I cant seem to find it in the families folder of the default types loaded into a new project. Is it a custom made one? If I had that wall type, would I just draw as normal, then place the studs later, say 16" on center? Or can all be done at once?

I am very new to the program so I apoligize for the newb type question. I have yet to try any of the family tutorials so maybe some of my questions will be answered there.

That wall type is in the residential template.
When you start a new project you can
choose it.

And yes draw your walls and don't worry
about the studs until it's time to show
them as a detail. Edited by: vector2 on May 8, 2010 10:16 PM

Thank you. I will have to spend more time exploring the properties of the various templates.
