Find and replace material

Is it possible to replace one material with another through the entire model? Either in the interface or through the API? Thanks.

Yes you can Cat Happy

You need to backup the main material (the one it will be replaced) by duplicating the material before replacing it ( I didn't mention this part in the video)

Copy the name of the material

Open new Project, Go to Manage-Materials (If ever you are afraid to override other material then instead of opening a new template then make a copy of your project with another name and the use it as the Temp file)

Select the new material you want to use it as replacement

Duplicate it or just rename it

Rename it with the name of your Main Material of your main project

Minimize the temporary opened project

On the main project, go to manage-Transfer project standards and just select Material from the temp opened project

So now the material is replaced, you could rename it without affecting anything

Here is a video to better visualize the solution

To supplement the response, we have been developing a plugin specifically for this purpose. Please find the Autodesk App store trial download link below:

Thank you! We're glad that you made good use of this tool. We developed this tool to save time and to be thorough with replacing materials, especially when receiving updated models with different standards on a weekly basis.

This plug-in seems to no longer be available?
