Family material / project relationship

When I edit materials in my family components and then save/load into project the materials/colors will not transfer into the project or renderings. If anyone knows what might be causing this that would be awesome!

Hi there,

You want to avoid setting family materials in the family editor. It means you need to edit the family each time you want to change the material.

Rather add a material parameter & specify the material in of the family in the project when clicking "Edit Type" on the properties dialog.

Depending on how many materials you family consists of, do the following for each material assignment.

Click the geometry you want to assign a material to & follow the steps 1 - 5

Step 1: Click Geometry

Step 2: Add Material Parameter

Step 3: Give material parameter a name

Step 4: Save Family & load into project. Click Edit Type on properties dialog

Step 5: Specify the desired material in the project & your family will update.
