Face based family has different directions on the floor and ceiling

For face based family,

  • if I insert it on the Floor, the Front of family will face South
  • if I insert it on the ceiling, the Front of family will face North

For ceiling based family

  • if I insert it on the ceiling, the Front of family will face south

Why face based family faces differently?

Face Based Families:

The placing on face is made perpndicular on that face....

When placing on the floor from UP>Down, when placing on the ceiling from Down-UP.... So the placement is relative to the visible planes . The ceiling is the 180 degrees rotated floor plane.

Ceiling Based Families:

Ceiling  Views are shown in projection not as you look it from inside....when placing ceiling based families you place them in the projection view ...

Anyway you can rotate the object using space tab..
