You can create a schedule to calculate the area of all your exterior walls. - the attached image - is this what you are looking for?

I don't have any videos - but can give you direction on how to do it.

Go to the View Tab

On the Create pallet select: Schedules

On the pull-down menu select: Schedules/Quantities

From Category select Walls and click OK

In the schedule properties select the parameters you want to see in your schedule on the left side and move them to the right side - i.e. area, family and type, length… etc. you can put these in any order you wish.

On the sorting/grouping tab sort by: Family and Type; check the header and footer box and select title, count and totals from the pull-down and check the box for blank line. At the bottom select grand totals check box and have title, count and totals

On the format tab select the area field and make sure you click the check box for calculate totals on the right side. Otherwise it will not calculate the totals for you.

Once you click OK your schedule will show up.

Hi,

not sure if this is elsewhere as topic is quite old, if so could you post a link?

Is it possible to work out the area, but all for faces, so 2 sides, back and front as this only seems ot pick up one face?

Needed in Rvt Structure and not sure if possible?

Hi Lisa,

This is a great help, thank you! Can you tell me, does this method take into account opening such as windows and doors etc? Will it automatically exclude from wall areas?

Hello @Anonymous - yes the calculations do take in the loss of wall for openings.

you can see this in a schedule. You can add a window or door and see the calculations change.

Hi Lisa,

Yes I tried that afterwards and I noticed it did take this into account.

One other question, does the wall area include both internal and external
areas of walls, including where perpendicular walls are butted up against
other walls?

Thank you again Lisa!
