We are working with a firm using Revit Architecture on a 1-time project and we use AutoCAD in our office. When they export their files to CAD and send to us, there's a lot of clean- up work to do during the conversion. For instance, there are components (walls, doors, windows, etc) that are lost/missing. Is this something that the Revit user is doing wrong in the export function, or is it just the fact that AutoCAD doesn't have enough smart features for these things to move over smoothly in the export?
Make sure the Revit team checks that all elements are visible/on in the views before exporting.
There are a lot of ways that elements can be mistakenly turned off when exporting to Acad; it is not really that Acad
isn't "smart enough"--Revit "smashes" everything 3D down into 2D lines and creates 2D views from it's 3D model.
If an element appears correctly in a Revit view, then it should export to Cad properly.
More importantly--The Revit team should be checking the Cad files BEFORE sending them to you, as a quality control as well.
cheers
Their Revit "expert" claims that it's a common problem he has with all of his clients that use Acad and he's exhausted his solutions to make it work. So he just recommends to the Acad users that they switch over. Too bad he's not offering to pay for that upgrade cost.
I work in both Revit and AutoCAD and although there are some issues getting geometry out of Revit. It never gets as extreme as things missing entirely.
Revit user inexperience is to blame IMHO....
