Duplicated levels

I've duplicated levels for some unknown reason since they were monitored from structural model. when deleting unecessary ones, some compoents hosted to the duplicated dissapear since the host is deleted.

how can i solve this problem without taking the risk of removing unwanted families? any thoughts?

Download the Trial version of Ideate Explorer (www.ideateexplorer.com) and then use it to index the entire project.  You can then sort all objects according to their hosted layers.  You can then select the items that are associated with your rogue layer and move them to the appropriate levels.  You may need to do this on a per category basis (floors, then walls, then components, etc.).
