Duplicate Wall

When I duplicate a wall and change the wall patterns both the new and original wall patterns change. It seems when I duplicate a wall it is making an instance so when I change one the other changes. How do I prevent this from happening?

You need to create a new wall type for the different walls. highlight the wall, chose properties, edit/new>duplicate. Then modify the wall structure as needed.

You'll have to post the file, something doesn't make sense.

When you say the wall pattern variable, where are you changeing that? If that pattern is specified in the material for both walls then it will change, you have to actualy modify the structure of the wall to have a diff. finish material, so you also have to duplicate the material and select the surface pattern you want.

I duplicated the same thing at home with a new install. Take a wall and dublicate it and change the exterior wall pattern in either wall. Both patterns change.... Am I missing something?

I t seems to be the exterior finish that is linking.

You are changing the pattern of the Material, which both wall types you have
created share. Lets say the exterior layer is Stucco. You are going into
the wall properties, to material, and then changing the properties of
Stucco, which will affect the material no matter where it is used in the
whole model. If you want the wall to have a different material/pattern,
then you need to duplicate a material as well, give it a new name, and
assign it to the new wall type you are creating. You might end up with
Stucco 1 and Stucco 2 materials, one assigned to wall 1 and the other to
wall 2.
