Double click editing does not work on profile families

It seems that all families can be double clicked and the profile comes up for editing or you can right click and select edit family. But on profile families if you right click the edit family is grayed out and double clicking does not do anything. This means that in order to edit a profile family you are forced to find it in the project browser to open it. Is there a way to change this so i can open profile families by double clicking on them or by right clicking and selecting edit family without that option being grayed out. It is frustrating and wastes time when I need to locate the family on the browser to edit it.

Thank you for your help.

Would it be possible to post a screencast video of the behavior?

   Autodesk Screencast:

Does this happen on every project?

Have you tried saving the family out through the project browser, then reloading them?

I am not able to reproduce the behavior on my end with various profile families. Is this a workshared project? You may not have permissions set to allow you to edit the family. Try copying the family to a new project and see if the behavior persists.
