does revit have a command similar to xref

i am detailing an apartment building and want to know how to copy a typical unit so that when i modify the original unit it will automatically update the copied units

Yes Import on the File menu. You can import and link DWG's, DXF's, DGN's, other Revit Project files.

Look into creating a group of your apartment unit and then insert a copy of
that group.
If you change the group it will update all the other groups.

From what I understand it seems that you need a group, not a linked file.
