Hey Guys and Girls,

I'm a real newbie in here as I have just downloaded the Trial for RAC, and
am starting to run thru the Tutorials. Having been a life long user of
ACAD/ADT/ACA, I fgured itw was time to learn it.,,,,,,,as many more firms
are looking for Revit Experience. Thaty said, one of the first things I
noticed is that I cannot find where to change the color of the dwg editor
background from "white". For years I've set me screen to Grey in ADT, as it
is easier on my eyes. Is there a way to change this?

BTW, like I said, I'm just now going thru the Tutorials, and tho I
constantly right clicking looking for commands, I must say so foar I like
it. I'm sorta feeling comfortable with it....short of the right clicking.

Thanks

I hope you have eye care coverage 🙂

You can only make it white or black. Tools>Ooptions-"Graphics"
tab-"Invert background color"

...but you really don't want to do that. Revit works best with a white
background.

"...but you really don't want to do that. Revit works best with a white

why is this?

One reason:

On my machine, regions that are set to a black solid fill will not
automatically invert its color. So, when a black background is used, I
can't see the fill.

yes wouldn't everyone like a black background..
but this is just one small price we pay for the
wonders of Revit.. i've tried to work with and
around not having it white- but it's just not
worth the loss of functionality..

different monitors may have a different affect
on your eyes..

lots more than one reason..
but here's one..
3D hidden line views come alive
with shadows on..
but guess what you get with a
black background?- 0 shadows..
the list goes on..

Sorry. Didn't mean to imply there was only one reason. I was just listing
the one that made me start using a white background way back when I was
learning.

It actually works good for me that my Acad is black and my Revit is white.
When they were both black, my brain would get confused and I would
inadvertantly try to use Acad command line shortcuts. Its weird but having
them different imediately fixed this.

Turn down the contrast and brightness of your monitor to reduce the glare and associated eye strain from a white background.

then you change the colors in photoshop and the prints no longer match the
screen.

i think he just means to make sure your brightness
is not set higher than it's supposed to be.. some people
believe it or not never think of that..
also i still use a CRT monitor and they are the hardest
on the eyes- but some of those monitors put off more
light energy than others.. right now i'm using an old
21 inch CRT that gives off very little light energy and i
even have to turn up the brightness a little and yet it
still has a well balanced picture..
you can also buy those i-optix computer glasses that's
in every drug store now..
also go into windows apperance and make all windows
light gray instead of white- that helps a lot.. same for
browsing the web- set "ignore colors specified on web
pages" in tools>options>accessibilty..
many things can be done..

the wording in my reply was wrong because
i actually knew you meant that was just one of
many.. and it's a good one.. i discovered several
reason why black has problems long ago but
i don't remember all of them.. i was told black
doesn't work but i had to investigate it to death
to prove it to myself.. lol
i suppose you could create a big floor that was
a different color and work on top of that.. i never
really tried it- but it seems like more trouble than
it's worth.. i spent the biggest part of everyday
for the last 2 years and 3 months learning Revit
and i don't think i'm half way there.. but it's the most
exciting challenge i ever had in my life.. i'm just
saying this for that person that is just starting..
Revit will be a legendary piece of software and
it's easily worth giving a part of your life to..
