'DING!' go the browser and properties boxes. Then I say something very different

Grumble, groan...

I'm running Revit LT 2014.  A Revit crash, followed by only dings when I click on the properties or project browser boxes, and dings instead of bringing up the material browser.  The crash happened while in the material browser, but it's done that before with no lasting side effects.  I've run Revit LT 13 and up till now, 14 with no issues, except the once every couple of week crash, and that pesky ribbon issue with net 4.0

My system is a Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop, 8 GB RAM, I7 processor, 250 GB SSD that replaced the original HDD.  I've been running the main window on a second screen, with the project browser and properties boxes on the laptop screen.  Been doing that pretty much since day 1, with no issues.

I've tried rebooting, a repair install, and a trick posted by Alaaeldin Alsahi in response to a post a year ago (see http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Revit-Architecture/Project-Browser-and-Properties-Frozen/td-p/4382509'), changing the registry key to 'Autodesk Revit LT 2014 Backup', on the off chance that maybe this would work.  I've also tried yelling, and I've considered getting my sawzall out to intimidate the computer, but this usually doesn't work very well.  It know's I can't afford to slice and dice it.

Revit LT 2015 upgrades the file and runs fine.  That would be my last option, as we're running primarily 2014 at work.

I'm working on a project that went from getting the 'go' on it last week to they need the drawings this upcoming week.  That's why fate decided to play this little trick on me, I'm sure.  I'll catch up a bit on sleep (what's that?) tonight, and proceed in the morning.  I'm open to any suggestions that may help.  I'm even open to suggestions that WON'T help, ridicule, comments about my parentage, etc.

These things never happen when I've got free time.  It would well and truly suck to spend father's day in the office instead of working at home.  If I must, well, so be it.  I'll do a complete reinstall while working there, unless some helpful soul posts a fix.  Though, I'm sure that will happen about .5 nanoseconds after I click the button to start the reinstall...

Thank you for your time.  I'm going to continue denting my desk with my forehead now...

Thank you for your post.  I am sorry to read of your frustration.  In this case there have been a number of issues with the placement of the palettes on the main monitor, separate from the secondary monitor where the users attempt to house the Revit interface.  The issue is a communication with the graphics system combined with the language (code) used behind the scenes.  The .net could be playing a part (a number of issues that were identified with 4.0 and 4.5) but to first test, I would suggest moving all palettes to the same monitor of the interface.  This would mean, for one day of use, placing all Revit components, including the interface on one monitor.  Test this to see how the results compare.  If the system remains stable, this could then identify the reason for such ill behavior.  At this time the recommendation from DEV still stands to have the interface and tools all on one monitor, and if possible, all on the main monitor.

I understand that this can tax the real estate needed for day to day design.  With this understanding I would strongly urge submitting this feedback to the development team.  In regards to the current configurations and improvements to the software itself, please use the link below.  This link will give you the opportunity to provide concise feedback to the product manager for future consideration with updates, improvements, and enhancements with releases.

Thanks for the reply!  I was feeling a bit lonely..

I can't move the browser and properties boxes.  All I get are 'Dings' and higher blood pressure readings.  I did place the main window on the same screen as they are, and had the second monitor disconnected, with no change.  I did the repair install, then an uninstall/reinstall, to no avail.  Uninstall didn't get all the settings, though.  The boxes appeared right where they were before the uninstall.  I can close them/open them from the ribbon, but it doesn't help.

I could try a complete and total uninstall of all Autodesk products (there's a link somewhere for the procedure) but at this point I don't have the time to do it.  If it comes to that point, a reformat/clean install of the OS would probably be easier for me anyway. I don't have a lot of software installed other than Revit LT and AutoCAD LT (2014 and 2015 for both).

Murphy's Law.  Of course it wouldn't blow up when there wasn't deadline pressure.  And it waits until about 10 pm on a Saturday night to do it.  I still remembered all of my old construction worker language when it happened, too!

Revit has been very stable for me, at home and at work.  And great fun to play with.  I can't complain about it too much.

Thanks!

Doing a complete uninstall fixed it.  I should have started off with it.  I can work some at home.  Like I am now.  At 12:40 in the morning...

Hmmm.  I wonder if I can recreate that crash...

This was really frustrating me, but a colleague just fixed it instantly!

i tried a restart, opened a file, but no joy.

my colleague suggested i open a small file (a family etc), and the problem fixed itself! Opening the 2nd file seems to fix it, the first file got stuck each time!
