Ceilings are different than other components and when you demolish the
ceiling, it doesn't change to dashed appearance like other entities. (The
same is true with changing the visibility graphics of ceilings, as you can't
change it to a dashed appearance.) The only thing that would change to a
dashed appearance is the outline. The lay in ceiling really isn't composed
of lines 2' apart, but is the result of a fill pattern.
The 2'x2' lay in ceiling contains a layer with the material of Acoustical
Ceiling Tile 24" x 24". This material uses a surface pattern of Ceiling
24x24, which is a Model pattern fill defined in the Revit.pat file. Since
the fill pattern defines the actual solid line appearance of the ceiling,
this is what keeps the ceiling tile from appearing dashed.
You will need to use the above information to get the ceiling to be dashed
following these steps:
- Create a new fill pattern for 24"x24" demolished ceiling tile using dashed
lines.
- Create a new material for demolished ceilings and using that new fill
pattern.
- Create a new Ceiling type that uses that new ceiling material as the
layer.
- After demolishing your ceiling, change the ceiling type to be that new
ceiling type so that it appears as dashed.
I hope that helps. 🙂

I have a area of 2x2 lay in ceiling that I would like to show as being
demolished. I would like the grid to be dashed. I cant seem to figure it
out. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
