CUSTOM SPOT ELEVATION

I am trying to create a custom spot elevation. in which you can add text.  I can do this, but when I load into the project in order to use it. I can't.  What I am doing is select the spot elev.  Then Edit Type and in SYMBOL look for the new spot elev. that I just insert, but it is not there.  How can I use the new spot elevation then?

If some one can help I will appreciate it very much.

Hi luisjose666, welcome to the Revit Forum.

It appears you know the process for creating a spot elevation

symbol. And after you did everything you thought you were

supposed to do to create this new spot elevation symbol family,

wouldn't you just know it, it wasn't there. But you are so close,

so don't worry about anything. Did you create this new family

using a spot elevation symbol family template? Or maybe you

were just moving too fast and started this family with some other

template. But for sure, if you created this family in the proper way,

and loaded it into the project, then in the type properties for system

family spot elevations, will be your new family, right there in that

symbol drop-down list. If the list is long, be sure to look carefully

for the name you gave that family.

Take a break, maybe go walk the cat, then come back and go

over the steps you took to create that spot elevation symbol

family. If worse comes to worse, you can just create it again.

Here are some images to help out:

The category image - make sure the family is the correct category.

the Symbol image - where you find how to change the symbol to your custom symbol.

Make sure you duplicate and rename it to your company spot elevation - it is alwyas a best practice to do.

Bringing this old thread back to life.

I'm having the same issue. I made a custom spot elevation symbol. I checked the catagory which is right. Loaded it into my project but when I edit the type of my spot elevation, the "symbol" is greyed out with "none" in the box. I can't figure out how to import that new family which is indeed in the annotations families.

Thanks, paul

Answering my own question so someone else might get this to work as well.
In the type properties of the spot elevation, the Text Location needs to be set to Above Leader or Below Leader for the Symbol to be editable. Not sure how the two are related but this worked.

Hello,

Hoping you can help.

How did you add a text field to the symbol family that you can modify in the project?

I'm hoping to get a spot elevation where one can type a description into a text field - i.e. FFL Parapet, FFL Roof etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Also looking for solutions to add an instance type text field to spot elevations to add indicators like T.O. WALL or B.O. JOIST to the tag.

Also trying to do this but it doesn't seem possible. All I can seem to do it have a label nested to the spot elevation family. I could create several lables for different values but I want to be able to edit the text within the spot elevation in a view.
