Custom Linetype?

I am trying to create a custom detail line, if possible?

Is there any way to create a custom detail line which will be a dashed line (similar to Hidden) as well as containing arrows every "X" feet or inches. i am attaching an image that is what i would like to create so i don't draw from scratch.

I would like for it to function as a line, spline, shape, whatever the needs may be.

Thanks

Try this family.  It is a detail component so you will need to use the detail component tool to place it.

Hope it works for you.

can this be drawn as a Spline? Arc? etc..

anyone know if these detail components can be drawn as splines or arcs?

Unfortunately it cannot be drawn as a spline or curve. Another approach to this type of scenario is to use the Repeating Detail tool, but that cannot be drawn as a spline or curve either. To achieve this you may have to draw the dashed line and add the arrow marks manually.

There is an existing request open with development to enhance this functionality to include these layout options. If you would like to provide comments as to why this would benefit your firm as well, I would suggest providing comments at the Feedback Site.

The biggest inconvienence in manually inserting the arrows is when i have a long spline path it becomes tedious and time consuming for such a simple task.

Is it possible to create a family or component in which the arrow heads remail perpendicular to the normal of the spline or curved line?  This would help avoid placing each arrow head and rotating manually by "eye" to match perpendicular.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the symbol can't be hosted to the spline/curve, so there's no real way to automatically set it perpendicular to it. You could add crosshairs with invisible lines to the symbol family - that might help with eyeing the rotation angles. For a set curve (but not a spline) you could look at using a radial array, which might speed up the placement.

I use the one I uploaded for you to use all the time.  I just make smaller straight lines in areas I want it to be a curve look.  Works fine and at the 1/16" scale it is plotted at looks real good.

I know this isn't the answer you want to hear but is a good work around until a better solution comes along.

Make a custom railing where the posts have symbolic linework only. Create a pattern with some posts that draw the dashed lines, and every three posts with an arrow. When you draw the railing it will allow curves, straight lines and splines. You can make a filter or a workset to hide this railing type from the views where it should not be seen.

sounds like it makes sense.  could you post a family example? or custom railing? should i start with a new family? or modify a railing component?

how will i get the dashed lines and arrows to show but not the railing itself?  I don't want this to schedule at all nor affect sections of 3d views.

Here is one example. The schedule problem is solved by using filtering along with a good naming standard for your familiy types.

Hi anakone,

Curious if you ever solved this.

I am looking for the same results as you but I am not keen on the family solution. I would simply like to have a line patter with an arrow at intervals.

Appreciate any feedback.

Still can't do it with line styles.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
