Create Area Plans in linked files

I´m trying to create Area plans in a Revit file where the exterior walls are placed in a linked rvt file. (Due to file size)
The link is marked as "Room Bounding", but when I try to populate the Area Plan with Areas, they don`t recognise the exterior walls and I get "Area is not in a properly enclosed region".

I´ve tried Copy/monitor of the exterior walls, but that doesn´t help.

Is there a solution?

As simple as this may sound - I have had that issue when the linked file was 1/32" above my level. I had to make sure all the levels were exactly matching and then it would find the walls and create the boundaries.

this is something I have had trouble with so just double check and see what you have.

You can't think AutoCAD and run Revit.

Thanks for your help,

It seems as if different levels was the problem. Now I can automatically create the area boundaries after using Copy / monitor.
