Components

Every time I open up the component Library, even if I do not select a component, I have the last selected component stuck to my cursor, can anyone tell me how to fix that without having to hit escape every time? For example, I picked the TV set the last time, therefore it brings in the TV set even if I don't pick anything else.

You mean Load from Library? Or Basics->Components? The second assumes that you are going to insert a component and defaults to whatever the last component was. Load family will load the component without trying to insert it. Yes, it difaults to the last selected component, are you saying this is normal?

Yes. All of the tools on the left assume that you want to draw something. If you just want to get to the Load.. without placing a component - use the pull down menu. File->Load From Library->Load Family. Revit creation tools are always ready to create when invoked. this means that they must have some Type "in focus". The last used item becomes the default, but you can switch without hitting escape either by loading as Aaron said, or by opening up the type selector box just above the design bar. Another technique is to avoid the component tool altogether and find the item you want to place in the project browser. You can then drag and drop the desired type onto the model. File->Load From Library->Load Family. To load and insert something in one fell swoop, you can also just open your Library in Windows Explorer, and drag & drop families right into your project. You can also drag them into and out of the project browser too. This is an additional way you can load things into your project without having to place them. -- Jeffrey McGrew Application Specialist BSD AEC Technologies, a division of ID8 Media Inc.
