Clapboard siding

Hello
We are using Revit Architecture 2009, and we are trying to make clapboard siding as outside layer on our exterior wall, but how do we do that?

We hope you can help us - we are pretty new to Revit, so it would be good with some guidance.

Thanks 🙂

Just like brick, clapboard siding is not modeled, it is set as a material and will render correctly. Set the layer to clapboard and assign the right material with line hatch for 2d views.

Well... thanks 🙂

It's just that we can't find the clapboard siding on the list of materials - how come?

There are some horizontal sidings that may work - not sure. Now is a good time to learn how to create your own materials. 3D patterns like this require a bump file as well as the image file. You can learn more about this on RevitCITY.

If for some reason you *really* want to model it:

Hello Dave 🙂

The problem is, that i really can't find the clapboard siding at the list of materials..
I don't know why, i should be there i suppose, maybe it's only in 2010?

Twoid- we need to find a balance between
modeling things and detailing things..

probably modelling every stip of wood
that makes up a clapboard siding would
be too much modelling..

that very well could be. I started on 2010 so have no access/knowledge
about what's available in previous versions

frankly I'm a noob so I shouldn't be in this conversation, but if I
needed to figure out how to make a clapboard siding wall type I'd
duplicate an existing wall that is similar to what your wall
construction will be, rename it, and modify the exterior finish layer in
the section profile using Reveals/Load Profile and load a clapboard
profile that I created in a separate family template. I'm sure those
with way more knowledge than I can either confirm that this is a
workable direction or send you in the correct direction.

The Siding - Clapboard is a material option in Revit Architecture 2009 when
using the Residential-Default.rte and Default.rte template files.
If your current project does not have that material, you can use File ->
Transfer Project Standards to get Materials from one project to another
project if you start a new project using one of those stock templates. You
must have both projects open at the same time to Transfer Project Settings.

If you don't have that material availabe to you, it is pretty easy to create
it. To get the surface pattern that you desire:
Go to Settings -> Materials.
Highlight the "Default" material, then pick the Duplicate icon button at the
bottom of the dialog box.
Name the material as desired.
In the Properties area on the right of the dialog box, change the Surface
Pattern to 3" Parallel, 4" Parallel, or 6" Parallel depending on your
desires.
Note that the above does not change the rendering information, so that needs
modified as well.
It is also handy to use the above steps to duplicate the Siding - Clapboard
material to get different exposures on your siding.

I hope that helps you with getting the desired material.
