can't print transparency from floor plan in revit 2013???

Just came across this issue today: it appears transparency overide (by element or by category) won't be printed from any floor plan views in Revit 2013. Tried elevation/ section/ ceiling plans. all ok. it seems to me that is a bug. anyone out there having the same issue? or I just simply missed something?

The work around is to switch the view to wireframe. but not ideal anyway...

I tried going through the following steps to see what you are describing:
1. Created a new project in Revit Architecture 2013.
2. Drew 4 walls (in a rectangle).
3. Placed a floor (by picking the walls).
4. Modified the material used for the floor (in the Type Properties -> Structure) to have a surface pattern.
5. Placed a couple desks (60"x30").
6. Set graphic override on one of the desks so that it was 100% transparent.

With the view in Hidden line, I could see the surface pattern of the floor through the desk, and I printed the view (Level 1) to PDF, and in the resulting PDF, the desk showed up as expected (transparent).

I also tried placing one of the desks on a lower level, and with the lower level as an underlay, set the floor to be transparent, but I still saw the desk through the transparent floor when printed to PDF.

I am attaching the project and PDF for review.

If you print the Level 1 view, in the attached project, to PDF are you seeing a similar PDF?

If the steps above do not represent the type of situation that you are dealing with, please reply with more information on what you are doing.

Lance,

Thanks for your reply. It is good to be able to talk to someone from Autodesk directly.

The situation is if object is partially covered, transparency override works in print. but if it is fully covered by a transparent object, transperancy won't be printed.

Please check the attached rvt, screenshot and pdfs. I added a wall to be completely under the desk in level 1 view and a roof over everything in level 2 view and printed both to pdfs with roof and desk being transparent. please check what results are in pdfs. nothing is showing up as supposed to be. and both use vector processing for the print. in raster processing, it works. The problem for me is 99% of time I use vector processing to print drawings (not images).

I spent some time on digging out what went wrong yesterday. to list what I found as follow:

- it happens only to floor plan views. not others like elevations, sections, 3d etc.

- only when it is completely under something transperant, transparency stop working in print.

- even it is partially covered, transparency still can't be printed properly, likely being printed with broken lines.

- it happens only to vector processing. raster is fine.

I believe it shall be easy to fix. but it is vital to me as I need transparency to be working in printing plan views for my daily work.

Thanks for your help again!

Thank you for the updated files. I am able to reproduce what you are seeing. I also found that the print preview is displaying what shows up on the print output (or PDF) (i.e. the transparency does not show up in the print preview).

This issue has been logged with our development group, and they are working to address it in a future release. Since they are still researching the issue, I don't have information on when or how (as an update, or in the next release cycle) the issue will be addressed.

At this point, it looks like the workaround would be to specify Raster Processing (for the Remove Lines Using setting in the Print Setup).

Is there an update on when this problem will be addressed? We use 2013 but our files are in older versions and we have problems using those models. Is there any solution to the printing problem that can be used now?

One workaround that has been mentioned would be to go into the Print Setup dialog (from the main Print dialog), and click the Raster Processing radio button (in the Remove Lines Using) portion of the dialog.

I have tried the Raster Image selection and it does work but the lineweights are different causing some confusion. Is there anyway to fix that?

Tried with new revit 2013 update 1 yesterday. Unfortunately, the bug is still there.
