Broken Sections

When working in a plan, I can accidentally select a section, even though the
section line is broken so that it doesn't actually continue through the
plan. This is getting rather frustrating as it is easy to move/copy/delete
the section without knowing it until later on I find that my sections are
all messed up. Is there any way to prevent this other than turning the
visibility off while working?

Yes try pinning it. Shortcut is PP, UP for unpin. It's like AutoCAD's
locking command but it works for objects not layers.
