backgrounds in revit

Hi all:

I have read as much as I can on this NG doing a search for backgrounds and
printing backgrounds. I now need some help finding the threads that I might
have missed or might be somewhere else.

I am new to revit and slowley working thru the tutorials. I tried to make a
plan with an autocad dwg as a background from one of our consultants. I set
the View Display to halftone and it looked well on the screen. Every thing
went well until I tried to plot the final plan sheet. At that point the
background seem to overwrite the line work and model I had created. Is there
a simple solution for this issue? I believe I have been through every Dbox
in revit trying to find a "Send to Back" for the linked autocad files. I
would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance

Will turning off the DWG in the view help? If so go to Visibility Graphics and on the imported tab turn off the layer or layers that are not necessary to the view. Also, on this same tab are the visibility override controsl for how lines appear in cut, projection and linetypes and colors.

I need the background for informational purposes. Locations of equipment and
existing structure is essential for this project. I do not want to draw the
entire plant in revit to get a controlable background. The only views that
need the background is the plan and reflected ceiling views. Elevations,
sections, and details do not require the background. One solution I found was
to make fat lines from the wall lines. It seems to overwrite the background
lines. Not a elegant solution, but it seems to work. I feel that this should
be a simple click of a mouse button.

Maybe a simple "Sent to Back" draworder for imported backgrounds needs to be
on the wish list for the next release. Or an update for the subscription
base. Considering the amount of legacy drawings from the DWG environment
that will be used in the future, I feel this will be an mandatory
requirement. Many new projects are additions to past projects.

Thanks for listening.

If the dwgs are bylayer, bycolor, then you can control the lineweight and style of any layer and turn off layers you don't need. so basically I think you would turn off everthing but the equip. you need to see and if there are some items you need to see but the dwg isn't quite right, use some detail lines(pick tool) then turn off that layer and modify your lines. I'm not sure the hide issue you are having. dwgs have the choice to be background or foreground and brought forward or back. , Just select the dwg, then in the options bar, you will see a pulldown with background or forground. I'm guessing your issue is you want individual layers to have individual draw order. If that is the case the onlything I can suggest is to wblock those layers into sep. dwg files.
