Areabook extension, wont execute - error message

I was trying to execute an area calculation with the extension but i get this error message telling me "The parameter is read-only"

This only affect projects using my newly made template. If I use a default template when creating a new project the extension executes perfectly. 

 

Recreting my custom template, with title blocks, familys etc. isnt much of an option - kinda my last resort. I've been investigating my parameters connected to "Rooms" but i cant find out wich one is generating the error message.

From the details in the error message, there may be an instance in your project where a shared parameter is set to read only which is causing the issue.

Because it is now possible to define a shared parameter that is visible, but set as "read only" I would suggest modifying through the API.

 

This can be done with the UserModifiable member of the ExternalDefinitonCreationOptions class.

ExternalDefinitonCreationOptions options = new ExternalDefinitonCreationOptions("myparameter", ParameterType.Text);
options.Visible = true;
options.UserModifiable = true;

 

Please advise if this resolves your issue.

If you wish to do any work whatsoever yourself with the Revit API, the best place to begin is by working through the Revit API getting started material, at the very least the 'My First Revit plug-in' and DevTV tutorials:

Im sorry i may be wrong but i dont think Filip is looking to develop any application here ?

This seems like a bug in the areabook extension from Autodesk.

Im investigating the same issue for another customer.

 

Anyhow a parameter where "UserModifiable" is set to false is not the same as read-only.
The API can still write to it so its likely not the reason for the expection.

Investigated some more and its related to one template file here as well.

Thats hard to change in the middle of a project.

Its the Area calculation that just hangs - no progress on the progressbar.

 

Might be theres a history of parameternames in the template that is not consistent with the Areabook extension.

Dont really remember how to delete them, involves some use of Revit Lookup i think finding the ID of a previously attached parameter.

But far as i know only Autodesk can create readonly parameters.

 

Really hard to pinpoint why this is happening - i will create a case at Autodesk support for this.

Vanessa if you have time to take a look i can upload the file here.

Found the solution in my case.

 

The Basepoint was pinned.

The area calculation will not run if thats the case.

Unpinning it solved it.
