ANOTHER DOWNLOAD PROBLEM...PLEASE HELP

I downloaded Revit 9.1 from this website to use the trial version for 30 days. I have read that people said it wasn't going to be available until April, but it let me install the everything. Once finished, i opened the program and after a couple of seconds, it went straight to a blue screen describing a problem and then it restarted my computer. Has anyone else had this problem? and can i do anything to fix it or do i have to wait until april?

Revit Building 9.1 is the old release which has been available since the
fall. Revit Architecture 2008 which will be the new release and from what I
have read here will not be available until April. I had no problems with
downloading and using Revit 9.1.

Yes uninstall and try reinstalling. Also you may want redownload Revit just
in case you the copy that you downloaded earlier has become corrupt some
how.

Windows XP Proffessional. its a fairly new computer (HP actually) with a 2.8 gb processor. i only have 1 gb of RAM though, which is the minimum for Revit, but could that be a problem? I redownloaded and installed it again and it worked. However, after i closed it and opened it again, it went straight to the blue screen and restarted. It now does this everytime I open it. the blue screen says a problem has been detected and it says (STOP: 0x0000008E and win32k.sys). I updated some drivers and that didn't help. I also run AutoCAD 2005, ArchiCAD 10, and Rhino with no problems. Anyone got any more ideas about what is causing this error?

I agree. Reformat your computer and see if you get the same error messages.
If so then it's probably a hardware issue. Did you do a search on the
microsoft page for that stop error? It sometimes gives you an idea of the
problem. Last time I got stop error messages, it was b/c of my network
card, but yours seems to be software related, which you can fix by
reformating.

1 gb of ram will not cause you to get stop errors. However, you should
stick another gb in there. It will help running Revit.

well...i ran memtest86+ overnight and it showed no errors. so i assume its not a faulty RAM problem. I keep reading about updating drivers, but i don't know which ones to update, and because my computer is fairly new, the HP website says there aren't any driver updates available for my computer from their website. I guess i will try reformating, but i've never done that before. does that mean i have to erase the entire hard drive? how do i go about doing that and what should i back up before i do it? and how do i get everything back to normal afterwards? sorry for so many questions.

I use www.driveragent.com to find my missing drivers. As far as backing up
you'll probably need a separate harddrive or maybe lots of dvds. I only
backup what I need, documents, pictures, custom data files, etc. It is
recommended that you should be backing up your info on a weekly basis. I
once had a hard drive failure and had to spend $800 to recover it. It was a
total ripoff but I got everything back. Now I have so many redunant systems
that I hope to not have to do that again. Did you know that windows has
it's own backup program and so does nero. If you have a new computer then I
would call HP and ask them for technical support. You probably paid for it
when you bought the computer.

if you have never formatted your computer before you should consult a
professional. C Ryan make a good point to contact HP - you probably have a
support contract if your computer is new. We suggest reformatting after
backing up because with fast hardware this can be the quickest and cleanest
solution. but call HP first if you are not sure about the process.

best wishes!

When I tried installilng Revit it gave me an error similar to yours. A computer friend determined that it was a .dll file that was in Window Service Pack 2, which is required by Revit. I downloaded that and it worked. Don't know if this will help you. Hopefully it will.

Yeah, it's a good idea to make sure that your operating system is uptodate
before you install a highend graphics software. In fact I believe Windows
recommends that stay uptodate. That's why there's a little reminder once a
week to install them. It's not there for nothing.

In my experience, a stop error is usually caused by a driver issue.

Hard freezes are almost always hardware and freezing programs are usually software and/or incompatibility.

But, what I've learned over several years of working directly with PC's is never to assume its one thing. Always use a fresh OS when diagnosing problems.
