advice on one file with several buildings or separate files for each?

If I have a cluster of buildings all within the same area, each building several floors, should I keep them all together in one file for energy simulation purposes (in case there are shading effects), or should I separate them out into its own file?

If you have several buildings in the same building-site and you want to run an energy analysis on them, then you basically have two options.

1. Build all the buildings in one project file. This I only would suggest if the buildings are connected to eachother with building elements such as walls, floors or rooms and you are sure, you aren´t generating  a huge file size, which could cause a slow performance of Revit.

2. You set up different files for each separate building and link them together in one host file. You can run energy analysis and get results for all those linked buildings.

Shadows, that buildings cast over each other are not affecting the calculation of Energy Analysis.
