The Revit UI could be greatly improved by adding in floating tooltips on all Parameter elements. I see this as greatly needed for a few reasons:
- clarifies the users/Autodesk's intended use of the parameter
- briefly describe what the parameter controls or documents
- clarifies to users who didn't make the parameter, why it exists
- helps new users grasp parameters quicker
- unifies use of built-in parameters across all companies
- can display if its a built-in parameter, shared or user created parameter (this is often confusing in other people's models)
Given the huge amount of built-in parameters in the API there's no way for users to know what each parameter does. For example, I'm sure a small amount thrusters know what every instance parameter of a divided surface does.
It seems like a simple upgrade to the API because we're only adding a string to the parameter element.
Please comment and consider this small addition for the 2014 release. All parties downstream from the architects/engineer will rejoice.
Dear JoeOfford,
there are Revit wishlist surveys each year, last one took place in spring:
http://thebuildingcoder.typepad.com/blog/2012/05/revit-and-navisworks-api-wishlist-surveys.html
You may wait until next spring, but perhaps one of the Autodesk employees/forum admins reads your wish and implements it, silently...
Best regards,
Revitalizer
Hi Joe
Just FYI - I have logged this for the Revit Dev team as a wish list item.
cheers
Dear Saikat,
what about displaying also the ElementId in the property sheet ?
At the moment, the user needs to invoke a button each time he wants to get an ID.
The ID could simply be displayed either in the context menu or in the same grid as the element's parameters.
Just a suggestion.
Best regards,
Rudolf
Hi Rudolf,
Thank you for your additional suggestions. I added the to the wish list item notes.
Cheers,
