PTS file Import Limits? Loss of definition

Hi,

I import a PTS file into ReCap but what i end up with is less dense that what i began with.

If i import the same PTS file into Navisworks there is a hugh diference, the density of the points is better.

Why is reCap reducing the number of points in the PTS file on conversion?
Does no one know an answer to this question?

Please help, (trying to convince people ReCap is the way to go for Point Clouds, not having much luck)

Thanks

when you import, are you editing the decimation grid settings to 0mm?

Also, see if you can scale up the model when you export to PTS, or export in some other format.

It seems the scale is too low an ReCap clears out the points that are to close to each other.  Less than 0mm distance

jstillplowman:

I have not touched the decimation grid settings to 0mm. What does this do?

vidonom:

Are you suggesting that if i change the units of the scan or PTS file that i will not lose density?

Surely Recap can handle a scan with points at a distance smaller than 1mm?

the decimation grid settings to were set to 5mm, I set it to 0mm & it looks like the density has vastly improved! Thanks!

great stuff

ideally it would be nice to have this set to 0mm by default rather than 5mm.

as 5mm kills the density of the point cloud if its already been decimated when exported from the original scan software.

Yes, I can't really see any reason that 5 would be the default. i certainly would not be loking to lose any quality or density unless i have to.

Are there any other default settings which could be reducing the quality of my imports?
