If you merge alembic caches onto referenced geometry and then save the resulting scene, loading that scene again will a) take forever, and b) lose all the alembic data.
I think this might be because the alembic cache applies its data similar to or as reference edits, which then fail to load, but I'm not sure.
Anyone experienced this before and found a fix, other than importing the geometry instead?
