ctb limit problems

This has been a problem for some time (up through Autocad 2005) and has appeared in numerous discussion threads, but I am trying to get some sort of definitive answers.

When there are too many ctb files in the Plot Style search path folder, various problems occur when trying to pick the ctb file you want. The usual response is that Autocad can not deal with more than 50 or so ctb files in the search path folder.

Have there been any patches or fixes to solve this problem?

Is this still a problem in Autocad 2006?

Is there any difference between using a network Plot Style folder or the local folder?

Perhaps the folks at Autocad don't realize that this is a MAJOR problem. We currently have almost 100 active ctb files. About 90 percent are client based and cannot be changed. We path to a limited access network drive to ensure the ctb files are available to all our users and are not modified. We need to have either one folder that holds all the ctb files or a way for Autocad to have more than one search path for ctb files.

Limit is still there: where you store them makes no difference, AutoCAD
cannot handle more than 45-50 at any one time.

Using customer-specific-focused profiles helps many to get around the
limitation.

I haven't found any limit on CTB files... but I don't have them all in one
folder.
We have them all in a common network folder, with a subfolder for each
client's CTB's. We have found that AutoCAD will show all the CTB files in
the sub folders if you just setup your Plot Style Search Path to the root
(ours is set to U:\AutoCAD Common Files\Plot Styles"), then put your CTB
files in folders under that one. Hope that makes sense...
Works great here. We have around 150 CTB files setup lke this with no
problems at all. Has worked from Acad 2000 onward (we are currently on
2006).

..interesting... we've tried that same procedure a couple years ago here and
it didn't fix the problem. Only after we lowered the number of total ctb
files (we zipped them up), down to around 40-50 were we able to get rid of
the problem.

We have tied the subfolder method with no positive result. If we have more than 50 total ctb files, regardless of the distribution into sub-folders, we have problems. If I were you I would keep my fingers crossed...
