I realize this is not the Adobe site but my problem is more of a AEC nature (i.e. full size drawings).
Our supplier sent us some wierd size pdfs that are not full size or half size. I am trying to resize them to full size pdfs (Arch D) but am unable to figure this out in Acrobat.
My work-around is to insert them in AutoCAD and scale them based on known dimensions, then print to pdf. Unfortunately the resulting file is collosal and the quality degraded.
(And no I can't just ask them to redo and resend as they are old etc.)
Thanks for any help
There is no ability to do much of anything in Acrobat Reader or full if the PDFs are truly at no scale at all: the PDF creator holds the key, contact them for "scaled" PDFs (maybe they want you to pay for it?). Power/control in printing is given to the author, not the recipient in PDF (or DWF), or paper printing as always.
If there is even a hint of scale, setting NO SCALE in the print dialog box in Acrobat and aiming for a large sheet ought to do it.
And yes, your question is only about PDF and Acrobat/Adobe but your workaround is a good one.
I have had success with a free program - PDF Xchange Viewer.
Unlike Adobe's program... it will let you set a custom print scale - down to 0.1% increments.
The only thing I can think of without actually being at your computer and troubleshooting it is that under "scaling and Alignment (2d Only)" the scale is not set to 50 or that the "clip pages", "center in printer margins" is not correct. See attached.
If that fails I would seriously look at the PDF-Viewer mentioned by someone below my original post. I downloaded it and it looks like a very viable option for both of us.
I am having wierd printing issues with that software.
I can print a dwg on both the 11x17 printer and 42" plotter without a problem.
PDF however is a problem.
I can print it 100% or 200% on the 11x17 printer - but no colour (and yes its set to colour in the dialogue box).
I can't get it to print at all on the 42" plotter.
Any thoughts before I give up?
With regard to PDF-Xchange Viewer-
Not sure which PDF printer driver you are using but that could be the issue. I have also had to set the "print as images" (under print option) in the past to get the print to come out right.
We use PDF Creator here with good results. I couldn't reproduce you problem. I was able to generate 24X36 and 8.5X11 color PDFs based on a 11X17 PDF with no problems. No problems sending the differant size pdf to our KIP or HP plotter. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Not generating prints......hmmmm. You tried tweaking the advanced settings (settings2.png below) that could fix the no print issue to the plotter. Set it to User Defined and 400dpi for anything greater then 11x17. Also the 'turn data into bitmap before printing' may help. How about making sure the printer properties also have color selected (settings3.png) for the printer you are sending it to for the grayscale problem.
I really don't know, gonna have to call it a day on this problem.
