Sheetmetal rules managed like appearances

I really like how appearances are managed for both custom local (in design) and synced cloud options. I think this would be a good example of common parameters like sheet metal rules. Having them be custom on the design level while being able to easily make and edit rules across designs (and synced to over computers) would be amazing.

I am not usually a fan of overuse of the cloud, but this is a good example of really leveraging it's capability to make things simple.

@TravisJoe,

Along with improvements to how rules are created, we have a project to make sheet metal rules a part of a library that can be shared across projects.  Currently they are a part of your preferences and can be saved to your personal library.  I believe with the improvement to the library that the team has planned, this workflow will be easier to discovered.  We will soon share with the community our plans to improve sheet metal rules based off of the feedback we have gathered.

Cheers,

The UI to manage the rules is clumsy. I do realize that it's a testing environment, but it took me a couple of tries to figure out what was going on. Moving forward, I like the idea of making the UI for sheet metal rules more like the appearance menu. Especially being able to set favorites and defaults (for instance, I may work almost entirely with 20 GA Stainless Sheet and having to constantly set that would get old)

I may not have played around enough, but once you've created the rule is it not saved across all of your designs? If you create a new project, you lose all of your created rules?

I believe I read something about tool tips being applied. Sometimes colloquial terms dictate understanding by the end user and what is named correctly in the UI may not be understood by the people pushing the buttons in the field. I think it's important that some of the concepts that are put in place are fully understood.
