NGON OBJ import into T-Splines ???

Does T-Splines not support NGON OBJ imports? It seems to me it triangulates the mesh once converted to TS.

Hi Claas,

Opening an OBJ file with the ‘Insert Mesh’ tool will insert it as a new mesh body (before we introduced mesh body capabilities, we would convert the mesh to a T-Splines body automatically). This should be fully compatible with tri-, quad- and ngon-meshes.

Once imported, you can convert any mesh body to a T-Splines body using the Convert tool. However, it’s strongly recommended that you only do this for quad meshes (or quad-dominant meshes – having a few tris or ngons in your mesh should be OK). If you try to convert a tri-dominant mesh or mixed ngon mesh to a T-Splines body, you will probably receive a warning advising against it. This is because the conversion process will likely lock up your CPU for a long time; and even if you get a successful conversion, a T-Splines body with lots of tris/ngons will likely have smoothing & performance issues.

Converting to a T-Splines body shouldn’t triangulate the mesh: each mesh facet should be converted into a T-Splines face with the same number of edges. If this isn’t what you’re seeing, might it be possible to share a screenshot/model which shows unexpected behavior?

Many thanks, and hope this helps!

Jake
