What have you done cool with PLM 360 lately?

(I know we're a small community right now, so I'll bump this from time to time as we grow! )

Share with the class please - what have you done fun in your tenant recently?

I'll start!

I had two opportunities this week to introduce internal folks from other departments to the magic of PLM 360.  In less than half an hour we were able to identify a current process from their department we could model easily in PLM 360.  And by easily I mean in that half hour time slot, we created workspaces, users, groups, roles - the whole bit.

Left them both with homework to go through the tours and training material and flesh it out more, but I'm still amazed that folks who don't think they can spell PLM can get the hang of using the solution for business process modeling *like that*.

Hoping some of my colleagues can chime in as well - I know a lot of them are doing cool stuff!

I created a Revisioned Control Workspace called: Document and Document BOMs in my own tenant. This workspace is used solely to store documents such as coporate policies, software manuals etc. One can also build a document BOM where related documents can be struture like a physical BOM. This workspace can then be associated with the Items and BOMs workspace via the Workspace Relationships.

Capture.PNG

I then add this workspace to the Workspace Relationships of the Docuemnt Change Order.

Capture.PNG

With this setup, I can then accomplish the following scenario:

1) Create revision controlled Documents using Document Change Order.

2) Add the document to an assembly defined in the Item and BOM workspace via an Engineering Change order.

3) This is useful in associating documents to a Physical BOM.

I'll join in.....to start with, I created an automatic RFQ process.

Basically, when an item reaches a particular state in the workflow an RFQ is automatically created and linked to the original item. The RFQ contains a link to a DWG that can be edited and marked up using AutooCAD WS by the supplier so they can provide DFM feedback. I added a loop back transition in the RFQ process so that the supplier can notify the requester that they have a question or have added a note via AutoCAD WS

;

One of the first workspaces I created was a Personel workspace to manage the people that are working on and involved in a particular project. Not to replace HR systems, but to include relevant 'people' information that an be used to how involvement within a project/programme. Using relationships I can see exactly which project managers are managing which projects and then drill into the project detail.

I'm also working on a new set of workspaces and processes for compliance which I should hopefully be in a position to share next week.

Cheers

Steve

Michelle,

Thanks for your inspiration!!  have raised the intertest of several individuals ( from Industry Strategy and Marketing and PSS for AEC) in my SF office to take a deeper look at PLM360 and I'll have a quick demo with them next week.

I've been working on barcode driven shipping workspaces at the moment. With all kinds of goodies built in. I have come up against some product limitations though, some of which I've found work arounds, and others I will continue to try and find other solutions or wait until product updates hook me up (these issues mainly surrround the extremely limited features available in the current BOM system). But all in all, its solved a number of problems for us which is very excting indeed.

Scott,

Great idea, I will have to look into this.

Unfortunately I have been so busy with other projects I haven't had a chance to go back and expand on the retail client.

But this is something I will deffinately keep in mind.

Cheers!

I have been working on a new Service Request workflow. It's based on defect tracking systems for the software industry but can easily be adapted to track any sort of request.

I have also been looking into ways of viewing people's agenda. And the easiest way is to add a mashup for the google calendar and synchronize your Outlook calendar with that of Google using the appropriate utility (Google Calendar Sync).

The formula I used for the computed field is:

'<iframe src="https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=[local-part]%40gmail.com&ctz=Europe/Zurich" style="border: 0" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>'

SO did you create a single google account for everyone access the PLM instance to sync their calendars to? Or is it one calendar per user?

Hi Scott,

For this exercise, I only created one account. If you used this set-up to manage multiple users, the main drawback is that there is no way to differentiate visually the events of each user (besides manually updating each event to change its colour). So the best way would be to have one calendar per user.

There is a business calendar for Google but it isn't free. There are some alternatives on the web but I haven't tried any of them (famundo, keepandshare, jotlet, etc.).

Finally, I found this link which shows how to embed an OWA calendar.

Best regards,

oooh yes, office 365 embeding would be wicked if you could pass the resulting file back as a controlled document somehow!?

Hi Scott,

Just tried to embed OWA and it works just fine. See this thread: OWA.

However, it's still an iFrame with no real interaction between the frame and its hosting page.
