why dont you approach Realflow, in integration with 3ds max?

I would do the following:

-Create a point helper

-Go to the Motion Panel > Assign Controller > Select "Position" >

-Click on the "Assign Controller" button and choose "Attachment"

-In the Attachment Parameters set your water as the object and then click on "Set Position"

-Click and drag on the water to reposition the helper along the surface of the object

-Click on the same button to deactivate when done

If you simluate/play your animation you should see the helper locked to that point on the water surface

Last step would be to parent the object that will appear, the rubber duck in this case, to the helper so that the duck will animate with the helper

The point of the helper is to allow you do animate the duck slightly differently if needed, to show weight for example.
