ADN Membership Level

I'm curious what other ADN members are doing for their subscription
level for 2003. I'm not sure the extra cost of the professional level is
something I can justify with the amount of times I use ADN's DevHelp and
actually get a helpful answer.

Basic. If I didn't need to test on multiple 'flavors' like ADT, LDD, I
would just buy an end user license.

why not find ppl with end user lics already for adt/ldd to test for you?

By test I'm sure he meant development as well. Can't write an ADT app or
debug it verry well if you've never seen our encountered it yourself.

Thanks Terry. That's how I'm leaning. Doesn't seem that anything but the
most basic questions are answered without a lot of patience and
persistance with ADN. I can't say paying double for quick incorrect
answers is something that appeals to me. 😉

Basic as well for me.

I guess I'm not alone in feeling underwhelmed by DevHelp 😉

I'd just like to add that programmers like Byron and Darren feeling
underwhelmed by DevHelp should not be construed as an insult to the guys
answering the questions. I think the DevHelp folks are very knowledgeable,
and doing an excellent job for typical developers. It's just that many of
you are so advanced that you only ask questions that are extremely difficult
to answer.

I suggested several years ago that they should add a field in their
internal database for the skill level of each member. This determination
could evolve over time from experience with the depth and clarity of
questions and followup communications. This would eliminate some of the
initial confusion faced by any support tech when answering questions without
knowing the skill level of the person asking the question. It might also be
used to automatically kick questions by the most skilled developers directly
to the most skilled techs.

In any case, when highly skilled developers bang their head against a
brick wall for 2 weeks, then finally ask DevHelp to solve the problem, it
should come as no surprise when answers don't come easily. 🙂

I just don't like the fine print and when it gets called in
it makes you do the maccerrana!

Anyway Tryoneall gives me all the support I need.

I'd just like to add that I think Owen's *OVER* estimating my
programming expertise. But thanks for the compliment! 😉

I understand what your saying Owen. There are a lot of good folks at
DevHelp. I've received excelent support on Inventor related topics as an
example. However, there are a number of instances where I've felt the
help (Mainly AutoCAD related) was just a quick "off the top of my head"
response and was incorrect or didn't address the question at all. But
perhaps I could do a better job explaining what I'm after.

OK. I'll be the one to look stupid and ask:

What is Tryoneall?

I think Gary means
tryonall, this is the
best way to make it perfect,
but also the longest way.

Does that mean to try every possible path through the program at least once?

Hmm. Must be something Computer Science majors learn in their first
semester. 😉

In our company we also refer to this type of testing as Try On All Desktop
or simply TOAD test.
