> I guess I'm not alone in feeling underwhelmed by DevHelp 😉
I'd just like to add that programmers like Byron and Darren feeling
underwhelmed by DevHelp should not be construed as an insult to the guys
answering the questions. I think the DevHelp folks are very knowledgeable,
and doing an excellent job for typical developers. It's just that many of
you are so advanced that you only ask questions that are extremely difficult
to answer.
I suggested several years ago that they should add a field in their
internal database for the skill level of each member. This determination
could evolve over time from experience with the depth and clarity of
questions and followup communications. This would eliminate some of the
initial confusion faced by any support tech when answering questions without
knowing the skill level of the person asking the question. It might also be
used to automatically kick questions by the most skilled developers directly
to the most skilled techs.
In any case, when highly skilled developers bang their head against a
brick wall for 2 weeks, then finally ask DevHelp to solve the problem, it
should come as no surprise when answers don't come easily. 🙂
