AcGeNurbCurve3d setFitData

When using
AcGeNurbCurve3d & setFitData(const AcGeKnotVector& fitKnots,const
AcGePoint3dArray& fitPoints,const AcGeVector3d& startTangent,const
AcGeVector3d& endTangent,const AcGeTol& fitTol =
AcGeContext::gTol,Adesk::Boolean isPeriodic = Adesk::kFalse);

providing a fitKnots knotvector I would expect that the interpolated
AcGeNurbCurve3d would hace fitKnots as its knotvector. Instead when getting
nurbcurve data using getDefinition member function I get a different
knotvector from the one supplied. Is there a case where fitKnots are
ignored? I've tried using both a knotvector with/without multiplicity at the
ends
