XRecords and serialisation

Hello everybody.

Could someone explain me, what for you need the serialisation by the xrecords? I tried to save an xrecord to an extension dictionary of an entity in frm of a text string of 6300 bites and than to show it in an AutoCAd AllertDialog. It did work. What is the task od the serialisation?
