VB.NET books for AutoCAD

A co-worker has found book on programming AutoCAD 2007 and 2008 with VB.net. Has anyone seen or bought this book? If this one isn't the best, is there other books I should be watching out for? The main reason I'm asking is Chapters/Indigo and Amazon have no info about this book and I don't want to drop $50 online for something that doesn't exist.

Details:
http://www.vbcad.com/showabook.asp?BOOKID=5
VB.NET Programming for AutoCAD Customization - Level 1
ISBN: 978-1-892131-10-2
List Price: $59.95

Thnks in advance,

Jim.

Hi Jim,

I haven't seen the book, but having attended some of Jerry's classes at AU
last year, I would not hesitate to recommend his knowledge of subjects he
teaches and his ability to communicate.

Bob,

I'm sorry you have been disappointed with my VBA book(s). I would be interested in sending you a copy of my VB.NET book to get your feedback.

Email me at jerryw@vbcad.com so I can get your address.

Thanks.

I decided to purchased your VB.Net for AutoCAD book and placed my order yesterday. I've been programming AutoCAD since v9 and was part of the AutoCAD 2000 Alpha team, specializing in the VBA integration. I've never really needed an AutoCAD programming book before as I learned it before there were any books... I'll let you know what my team thinks of your book...and I'm expecting it to be good from the feedback I've received. :o)

Cheers.

So have you received this book yet Jim? If so how about a review? 🙂

We haven't received our hard-copy yet but we've been reading a preview PDF version.

From what I have read so far, it seems well formatted and very hands-on with loads of examples and exercises. Many of the exercises are answers to the challenges we are facing on a current application.

It starts with setting up VS.Net to work with AutoCAD and eases beginners into the often complicated world of embedded API programming.

Jerry also managed to interject lots of humor. My favorite so far is a statement on page 38:

"This page has been intentionally left blank because the more pages I can fit in this book, the higher the price I can charge for this book. I’m sure you’ll understand. Of course, I could increase the font size and increase the margins, but I haven’t done that since High School."

In a nutshell, we were so impressed with the professionalism (humor aside) and level of knowledge that shone through with this book that the company I work for has canceled API training with Autodesk and contacted Jerry for class based training to help shorten our learning curve even more.

Great work and I can't wait to see what level 2 in the series includes.

I will fully and heartily recommend this book to anyone that has an existing knowledge of VB.Net and AutoCAD.

I have this book. I like it. I also have had the VBA book for several years now. Both are worth the money. Good place to start from.

Sorry, the PDF isn't allowed out of my sight but you can get a good description at http://www.vbcad.com/

Also, Gerry's pretty good at returning email quickly if you need more info.

Now I have received my second notice saying it is delayed. The new shipping date is next year. So I have cancelled my order.

In my case Apparently not!

By the sounds of this thread I was one of the few lucky? enough to get one of the books back around April/07. But I spoke to him after getting the book (I guess when he was still taking phone calls back then) regarding the DVD which was not mailed with the book and it would be a "week or two" before I'd get it.

I'd guess that I've sent about 3 or 4 emails to him asking when I would get the DVD tutorial, as well as leaving maybe about the same number of messages on his answering machine. It's now October and no contact whatsoever.

I too had heard others speak well of him and yet no word for the past months. I'm guessing it was released and maybe now he's withdrawn the book till next year.?.
If the book is not going to be re-released till next year, Jerry probably has issues more "pressing" than delivering a DVD. But some form of contact or explanation might be nice.

Has anyone else had issues or problems similar to mine?
Has anyone actually got the book and DVD?
Can anyone shed some light on the future of this book?
(Jerry are you out there?)

Thanks
Richard

Richard,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. There is no excuse for my failure to ship your DVD to you. I am sorry. You will receive the DVD tomorrow via FedEx. And if anyone else out there is missing anything, I would appreciate an e-mail (jerryw@vbcad.com).

The training portion of the DVD is nearly finished and all individuals who have ordered the book will get new DVDs when it is finished. I have been working with Adobe for many months now on a 'bug' with their software that had kept me from producing the training portion of the DVD. A work around has been created, however, so, it should be finished shortly.

Is this book available in the UK, I've contacted Blackwell Books in Sheffield but they can't find anyone who distributes it.
