persisting data in cad drawings

Is it possible to persist a custom object within CAD at a per drawing level?  Basically we want to create a web service that pulls in a project name / project number etc etc from our project management software and persist this to the cad drawing itself so it is available when reopened?

you can use "named objects dictionary" therefor.

ok.  So anything stored in the dictionary gets saved automatically?  Im just doing a search for this now in google.  Do you have any decent links you can share.  Apologies completly new to CAD development

Saved automatically is not correct, it is saved with the drawing, but only if the user saves the drawing. :smileyhappy:=

"Through the Interface" is always a great site for all dotNET-stuff for AutoCAD, and there are a lot more listed. Let us know, if you have troubles while writing your specific code, but as a global help you have now links the get deeper into NOD's.

Another solution is DatabaseSummaryInfo custom properties. Information stored in DatabaseSummaryInfo can be read without AutoCAD as a dwg-file properties with Explorer.

Data can be saved; how that data is manipulated i.e. program cannot.  So the drawing can go elsewhere but if the program (AutoCAD, for example) doesn't have the plug-in or object enabler then nothing will happen with that data.
