.NET IDE in Autocad

Hai,

I am new to .NET application developing for Autocad.
Before I was using VBA IDE to do the CAD programming.

I am just wondering is it possible to introduce .NET IDE in Autocad as just like we open VBA IDE in Autocad ?
Is it possible to develop a .NET IDE platform that will work under Autocad , so we dont need to install MS Visual studio version ?

Thanks

Hello AJILALVIJAYAN,
There is no integrated development environment for .NET with Autocad at this
time so you have to install it separately. (If you are worried about the
cost of Visual Studio there is the free version of Visual Studio Express).

There is a VBA like equivalent in .NET called Visual Studio Tools for Applications
(VSTA) but I have not seen many products implement this since it is so easy
to use regular Visual Studio .

Hi,

I would appreciate a .Net IDE in AutoCAD an its verticals because the system administrators in my company are small-minded control freaks and they say: You dont get VS Express because you dont need it. (But they are not able to judge this.)

So an IDE in AutoCAD would help me, because I woult get it automatically with a new autocad installation.

Maybe there are several users in my situation.

The question of whether you need Visual Studio or not,
is not a decision that system administrators should be
making to start with.

Deciding what tools end users get or do not get, is not
their job. Their job is to install, configure, support and
maintain software and systems.

Perhaps they regard users with the skills needed
to use development tools like Visual Studio as a
threat and/or an encroachment on their domain
(knowing some of the admins I've dealt with, I'll
put my money on that horse).

Regardless of their reasons or motives, you should
take it up with management at an appropriate level.
