Obviously I am just getting started, maybe either will work well...

From a previous post...you need the latest CTP of Visual Studio 2005 due to
a Microsoft bug in Beta2. With PDC this week, there are rumors that we may
see RC1 very soon...

I believe the 2005 'real thing' is coming in mid November.

There are still issues with 2006 and the 2.0 framework that I would
hesitate to switch to depending of course on what type of automation you
are writing.

What issues are you referring to? I'm not aware of any if you use the latest
CTP.

Various issues primarily related to controls and dialog boxes such as Layer
Manager. The controls either do not function properly - eg add a layer,
change its setttings and it disappears, or the controls don't function at
all such as some of the Properties dropdowns [internal combos] never appear
as they should. If they are fixed, I am wrong but I have never seen nor
heard where they were addressed.

Well, I guess I don't know what build you are running. I'm using a build
from MS that was posted 3 days ago on MSDN. It works fine. Beta2 that you
are most likely running had several issues. We reported these to MS and they
fixed them one by one. Beta2 was long time ago. They had 3 or 4 public
builds since then.

Hmmm...could be the case. My build is from some time in July or early
August. I'll have to head there this weekend and download the latest VS.
Thanks and I'll let you know if the issues are still present.
