how to iterate up the ladder from GetNestedEntity function?

I've gotten som good help on this from theSwamp, I'd like to hear what you guys have to say on this too.
lets say I want to list the layer name of each nesting level of an object.
So if the object is a line, in a block, in an xref, how do I get the blockreference entity from the line?
I see how to use OwnerID to get the blockTableRecord, but not the blockreference...

How would I tell if the level above any given level is another blockreference, or an xref or modelspace or paperspace?
thanks

incidentally, the answer is to use the GetContainersmethod of the PromptNestedEntityResult return.
It will have the blocks above the nested item.
