Extracting attribute information from an LT drawing

Hi,

This is a basic question as I am starting out so please forgive me if the information appears elsewhere - I've looked but haven't found it! I did post a query on the VBA/COM group so apologies if you saw the start of this query elsewhere.

I have written a program in VS 2003 (VB) to process scripts on multiple files, now I would like to extract the data from attributes in the drawings (drawing description and issue status) so I can include them in a CSV file.

As I understand it my version of VS and .NET is too old and an upgrade is required. Also our company only uses AutoCAD LT (2007 currently but 2010 is coming on-line).

My question is: If I upgrade VS will I be able to extract the attribute data from the LT file formats? I pressume LT needs to run and load the files to be able to extract the data so I have little hope but if someone could confirm this it would save me a load of time.

If it is possible then any information gratefully received.

Many thanks

If you use AutoCAD LT, this is the end of story: it does not expose COM/.NET
API for you to do anything. You need full AutoCAD.

Before you spend mony on newer VS (not necessary, if money is a concern: you
can use VS Express), you must spend a lot more for full AutoCAD licenses.

Yes, well designed/developed programs could potentially save a lot of
drafting time and justify the money spend on full AutoCAD. But what is "well
designed/developed" varies from case to case.
