How do I quickly and simply extract the preview bitmap from a DWG file using .NET/C#, having AutoCAD Mechanical 2007 installed on the client computer, nothing else?
Ideally I'm looking for something like:
Image GetDWGThumbnail(string filepath) { ... }
The function will be used in a simple file-selection-dialog, so relatively fast response time is essential (say no more than 50ms per call). I'm using the assemblies acdbmgd.dll & acmgd.dll found beside the acad.exe to communicate with AutoCAD.
I found a solution involving the native windows shell interfaces to extract the thumbnail from any given file, but that solution is less-than-simple. There must be a simpler way using the AutoCAD class libraries?
