add text into an attribute when the block is being inserted.(newbie)

I am able to insert the block and it work great but I can't seem to be able to assign the text I want into the attribute of the block.
Can someone please help.

What does "I can't seem to be able to" mean?

Have you done something (show your code) that did not do what you expected, or got you an exception?
