Tags Inconsistancy.

Maybe I'm not very bright about this, but I am having a difficult time getting my head around TAGS.  According to the Help, If I click on the tag command, pick on an object, pick again to 'locate' the tag number, a VIEW is created and added to saved viewpoints tab.  NOT!!!!

I can create the Tags, and Even Add the comments...........but 9 out of 10 times a viewpoint IS NOT created.

Can some explain the Proper "PREP" to a view prior to creating Tags, cause I can't find it>

Thanks,

Mike

Dear mike

The behavior you described will occur if your current viewpoint is a saved viewpoint.  In other words, if you select a viewpoint from the viewpoints widow, your current viewpoint is now that saved viewpoint and you can now place tags in the view.

If you are in the middle of navigating and your current viewpoint is not saved, when you place a tag in the view, then a new viewpoint is created.  Your current viewpoint is now that saved viewpointm so when you place additional tags, they are placed in that viewpoint rather than a new one being created.

Please let me know if this is what is occurring.  If this is not, would you be able to provide some steps to reproduce the behavior.

Hi John,

I quess what is confusing about it is this...........I'm wanting to use TAGS as a means of Clash Coordinations for Subs to be able to use Freedom to review Clashes....i,e, those who do not have NWM.  That being said, when I "Run" a Clash sequence, and new or active clashes occur, I click on say Clash #1, and the view goes to that particular view........BUT if one looks at the View Palette, No said "view" shows, therefore leading one to beleive that not 'saved' view exists..............It's at the instant that I pick a clash, view pops up, that I want to TAG"/Comment/Create view in palette.

Problem is .....sometimes that works, sometimes it does not.

Hi mike,

Thank you for the update.   I forgot about clash detective and the "save viewpoint" display option, as this is another case in which a new viewpoint won't be created when tagging.  If you mark the save viewpoint checkbox in the display options panel of the results tab, the current view of clash will be saved (but not as a viewpoint in the viewpoints window) so that you when you reselect the clash later on, the saved view will be displayed.   In other words, the saved viewpoint is saved in Clash Detective, but not as an actual viewpoints in the viewpoints window.  However, as the viewpoint is saved, a new viewpoint is not created when you add a tag after selecting the clash result.

I believe this is what is occurring.  Please check if save viewpoint box is marked in the display options of clash detective, and if so, unmark it.  Then select a clash result and place a tag, a new viewpoint should be created.

Best regards

Hi John Lipp

I am having a similar problem in 2014. I can't find the 'save viewpoint' box. Is it different now or am I blind
