Save as option (NWD) is missing

We have opened a Navis file provided by our client and when we save it into NWD format we can't do this.

We have seen the issue in Autodesk Forum (http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Navisworks-General/navisworks-management-2010-can-t-save-as-nwd/m-p/33...) but after doing the mentioned steps we can't save it into NWD format.

We ahve attached snaps for your easy reference.

Please suggest. Thanks in advance!

Thanks & Regards

The NWD Publish dialog has a check box towards the bottom, "May be resaved".  If that is unchecked, then the NWD cannot be resaved, and any NWF which includes that NWF cannot be published.  In order to resave or republish NWD files, that publish option *must* be checked.  Note that some will deliberately do this to prevent re-use of their content.

Thanks for your valuable feedback.

We have done the followning steps to save it in NWD format which has mentioned below:

1. Open the Client NWD format in Navisworks interface.

2. Then go to the Application menu (N) > Publish > Check the "May be re-saved" button > OK

3. The error will come (see the previous error snap) nad the file will not save

So please suggest. Thanks in advance!

You missed a step.  🙂  The ORIGINAL client NWD file must be published this way.  So you need to go back to the client and get them create a new NWD file.

It can be handy to help prevent others from re-using the NWD file, which may have been their original intention.

Thanks for your reply.

So for now we can't save the provided client file in NWD format. One more thing how can we save the file so that nobody can't save it into NWD format from their end (As we got the file from the client end)

Thanks & Regards

The same way - when you publish *your* NWD, you ensure that "May be resaved" switch is UNchecked.  Just like you with you're client NWD hey'll be able to load the it but won't be able to re-publish it or save-as to a lower version.  Keep in mind, you can end up with the same complications and potentially bad feelings ie. "They sent us a file we can't use".

Look into the other Publsih settings as well.  The time-bomb and "Display properties on open" can be equally useful.
