When I export my Revit model out to an NWC, my custom structural steel family (called "stick") does not export out. It should be noted, the reason it is custom is that it will only display at a medium level of detail.
This family does export out to Autodesk Showcase without issue if the 3D model (in Revit) has a Medium level of detail. Exporting the exact same view and detail level to NWC doesn't work.
Any thoughts?

Hello,
I understand that you have a model that you are trying to export the file it is missing custom structural steel family. You can find Autodesk Revit to Navisworks workflow by clicking on these links:

Exporting to Navisworks:
The Export method for Navisworks requires a compatible Navisworks exporter add-in registered with the current Revit session. If there is no compatible exporter registered, the method will throw an exception. Use the OptionalFunctionalityUtils.IsNavisworksExporterAvailable() method to determine if a Navisworks exporter is registered.
The NavisworksExportOptions object can be used to set numerous export settings for exporting to Navisworks, such as whether to divide the file into levels and whether or not to export room geometry. Additionally, the NavisworksExportOptions.ExportScope property specifieds the export scope. The default is Model. Other options include View and SelectedElements. When set to View, the NavisworksExportOptions.ViewId property should be set accordingly. This property is only used when the export scope is set to View. When set to SelectedElements, the NavisworksExportOptions.SetSelectedElementIds() method should be called with the ids of the elements to be exported.

Thank you,
The issue still exists. I uploaded the files to the case toward the end of last week for review. The items do not export to Navis via Selection or exporting the entire model.
That's a great question. I've tried it, but the supports just do not show up. Also, if I do a Find Items in Navisworks, they do not show up as items in the model that can be selected.
This is where it gets interesting. This family is based off of an out of the box Revit family. That family WILL show in Navisworks. The main difference between the two families: My custom family has the visibility of its elements turned off in Course and Fine. It displays in Medium.
The logic: We wanted a specific symbol to display in elevation and plan views for these structural members at a specific detail level (either Course or Fine). So I've incorporate a detail component that displays at the proper level of detail inside of the family. That detail component does not display at a Medium level of detail in either view, so I have all views display this structural member normally in a Medium level of detail.
I can not share the project here in the forum, but I have no problem sharing that family. (Yes, the family displays as I need it in Navis at a Medium level of detail).
In short: I've been using the Export so that I can export a specific view at a proper level of detail into Navisworks. Unfortunately, I believe this doesn't actually work with the exporter... it seems (best guess) to export at a fine level of detail, no matter what view we are exporting. That's just a guess, but I'm looking for a confirmation of that or a solution. On a side note: In Revit, exporting this to Showcase, exporting the view with the Medium detail level works perfectly... but Showcase files (I believe) won't go into Navisworks.
Thanks!
Hello Brian,
I was able to see reproduce problem that you were having.
I was able to correct issue by doing following steps:
Turn off “Stick Symbols” in the “structural Framing Category” in Visibility/Graphic
Set Detail Level to “Medium” for “structural Framing Category” in Visibility/Graphic
Now set your Detail Level to Fine.
I was able to see your Custom structural steel family called “Stick”
Then I exported this to .NWC and Open in Autodesk Navisworks and they were showing up there too.
Please, let me know if this information helps you to resolve the issue.
