Thank you for your post. I am sorry to read of how this change in rendering engines/processes has effected your workflow. In this case there are a number of enhancements made to the 2015 rendering system. I have listed below details and a video on these changes for reference.

.

In addition to this Post, I would also strongly urge utilizing the development product feedback link below. This feedback goes directly to the product manager and development team for round table discussions on product enhancements and bug fixes in the product. I would suggest submitting this feedback and explaining the business impact of the current feature and possible potential if this was corrected as soon as possible. This is a very powerful link that is a great resource for our end users to also supply feedback to the development team to double up overall efforts in changing the current functionality where possible.

I hope this helps, although I do understand it is a change from the previous presenter workflow and features. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to dodge the question. For anyone else suffering with this issue, the work around is to create a "Billboard" that extends outside your field of view. Then apply a material to the billboard. Make sure you can load an image into the Autodesk material, this is where you will load your background image. Using the scale & position buttons, you should be able to size it up. It takes 5-10 min of freggin to achieve the proper size and location. You have to use the image tile option. This does not work well on curved surfaces.

Hi,

Any chance of uploading an image og the result? I am unsure why you would put an image in, but am interested in the result.

Many many moons ago, it was a practice to take a video camera out to a project site, film a 360 degree circle from the middle of the project, then take that back to the office and make it the background image.  That way, when you walked into the kitchen of your house (in the model) and looked out the window, you could see exactly what you'd see once the house was built.

A lot of times this called for m oving windows or even redesigning houses but, in the end, the customer was much more satisfied with thier house.

Give a man AutoCad, and he'll draw you a floor plan.
Give a man Revit and he'll build you a house.
Give Cadmama a couple of drinks and she'll have everyone singing Rockytop!

1. Render your Scene, save it

2. Change the view to Shaded, change the background Color to a color that isn't really used in the rendering.

4. Save that image too

3. Make a Chromakey like Mask in Photoshop / GIMP or equal

I've done that more than once.  Personally, I'd prefer the option to directly produce PNG files with Alpha (RGBA) since they can already do PNG images against a fixed background color/generated horizon.  A multi-layer format such as EXR would also be an excellent addition.

mdoyle,

I have this fuzzy idea that there used to be an option for adding a background image, but maybe I'm thinking of 3ds Max.

In any case, we use the "billboard trick" to achieve this in NW also. Kudos!
